Work-Based Learning

What is Work-Based Learning?

Work-Based Learning (WBL) gives students hands-on experience in real workplaces through job shadows, internships, apprenticeships, and workplace projects. At CATIC, WBL complements our CTE courses, allowing students to apply what they learn in the classroom while gaining practical skills.

Why is it important?

WBL is a required component of Michigan CTE programs and is vital for preparing students for high-demand careers. It helps students:

  • Develop critical workplace skills such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and time management
  • Explore career pathways and gain industry mentorship
  • Build professional networks that give them a competitive edge
  • See the direct connection between classroom learning and real-world applications

By integrating WBL with our CTE courses, students leave CATIC not just with knowledge, but with experience, confidence, and a head start in their chosen careers. We are dedicated to preparing students for success in today’s evolving workforce. Through strong partnerships with local businesses, we provide students with hands-on, work-based learning experiences that connect classroom instruction to real-world careers.

We invite you to share any opportunities your business may have for student engagement—such as job shadows, internships, guest speaking, or workplace tours—by completing a brief form at the link below:
